A Golden, Dreamy Evening in Ventura

As a Ventura photographer who specializes in beach maternity and family photography, I was so excited when this sweet mama reached out asking for a beach newborn photoshoot. I no longer offer indoor newborn sessions, simply because they don’t align with the natural, glowy, movement-filled style that lights me up creatively. But a newborn session outdoors, surrounded by warm sunshine, soft sand, and ocean air? That is where my heart thrives, especially here along the Ventura and Santa Barbara coastline. And, this session was everything I could have hoped for.

From the moment we met on the sand, I could feel how connected and present these new parents were. They were relaxed, trusting, and fully open to letting me guide the session, something that always makes for the best photos. We bundled up their baby girl in cozy blankets and my woven moses basket for some sweet solo photographs in the warmth of the dunes and sunlight. Their pup joined in too, and he was such a well-behaved addition! Including pets is always welcomed in my Ventura beach sessions, they’re part of the family, and they add so much playfulness and authenticity.

One detail I loved was the mama’s delicate wrist tattoo that read “ride the waves.” It felt like the perfect message for motherhood, newborn life, and this beach setting, a reminder to flow with the unpredictable, embrace the beauty of each moment, and trust the journey.

I’m beyond grateful I had the chance to capture these early moments for them. Watching new parents transition into their roles, seeing the gentle way they hold their little one, and photographing the love between the parents and their sweet new one, it’s one of the biggest honors of my job.
